More young women should study tech, says Tech Partnership

More young women should be encouraged into a career in technology, according to the Tech Partnership.

The digital skills advocate has called for more support from parents and teachers for young girls to enable them to study technology whilst in school.

Campaign

The organisation has launched a campaign, My Tech Future, based on the findings of a report that was sponsored by Hewlett Packard Enterprise, BT and Tata Consultancy Services.

The company will be promoting digital careers to young people through Tech Week, which is a UK-wide event that will see businesses helping young people from schools, colleges and universities to learn the benefits of a career in technology.

According to the Tech Partnership, the event will should alter how young people learn about technology, ensuring that they see the wide range of technology careers available to them across all industries.

Crucial

Minister for the Digital Economy, Ed Vaizey, spoke of the importance of getting more women involved in technology roles, stating that the sector needs their talent and skills.

He said that the digital economy is “critically important to the UK's global competitiveness” and that an “inclusive, diverse and well-prepared talent pool” is needed to ensure that the nation flourishes.

“It's exciting to see employers coming together to find new ways of ensuring that women and girls can play their full part in the world of technology. The tech sector, and the nation, needs all their talent, skill and enthusiasm,” he said.
