Data shows increase in UK banking and finance jobs

Data from totaljobs has shown a record rise in the number of advertised jobs in the UK at the start of 2018, with banking and finance among the sectors that saw an increase.

The figures showed 54,000 jobs were advertised on the totaljobs website between the 1st and 7th January 2018, up by 20 per cent from the same period in 2017.

Positive outlook

The data showed a positive outlook for banking and finance in the UK, with a 10 per cent rise in advertised roles, despite uncertainties over Brexit.

Job growth in London was particularly high, with the city seeing a year-on-year rise of 38 per cent in advertised roles. Banking was among one of the key sectors in the city to keep in-line with UK trends, with the number of advertised roles in the sector increasing by 24 per cent.

Wide choice

Commenting on the data, David Clift, HR director at totaljobs, said: “Despite political and economic uncertainty, the UK job market thrived in 2017 with unemployment reaching its lowest level in 42 years. Our data suggests this momentum is set to continue into 2018, with 20% more jobs available now than a year ago.”

He added that the good news for people who are looking to make the next move in their career is that there is a wide choice of vacancies available right across the UK.
