Digital technology crucial to success of UK businesses, says report
Digital technology is crucial to the success of UK businesses, according to a report titled Understanding Digital Natives by IT provider Computacenter.
The report, which surveyed over 1,000 employees and IT managers, showed that whilst 77% of employees in the UK find technology frustrating, over 80% of employees believe that it is crucial to the success of a business.
Over 80% of UK employees and IT managers surveyed said that they want access to improved digital technology.
The report explored the differences between “Digital Natives” and “Digital Novices”, describing Digital Natives as “highly knowledgeable about technology” and Digital Novices as “more tech-hesitant.”
Computacenter Chief Technologist for Workplace and Mobility, Paul Bray, said that a “digital savvy workforce drives innovation and productivity”, adding that with over 60% of employees considering themselves to be Digital Natives, getting the right technology is now more crucial than ever for businesses.
Bray went on to state that technology can range from a “wide variety of solutions from smartphones to cloud computing systems”, adding that businesses need to remember that their employees want to be using the same technology in the workplace as they use at home.
He warned that businesses that do not recognise and address this demand will risk losing “employee productivity and engagement”, which can damage the performance of the business and result in a loss of “competitor edge.”
The report also stressed the importance of businesses keeping up with tech demands, stating that IT departments catering to the needs of Digital Natives is “essential in the modern digital economy.”
