Enterprise Uganda and ACCA announce new partnership

ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has signed a new agreement with Enterprise Uganda that will offer wide-ranging training, support and mentoring for the country's growing small business sector.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) will allow ACCA members to volunteer to mentor small businesses and help them through challenges and encourage growth.

Detailed help

Chief Executive of ACCA, Helen Brand, OBE, said: “ACCA believes finance professionals have a vital role to play in providing insight and knowledge that drives business planning and strategic decision-making for enterprises of all sizes."

Ms Brand went on to explain the reasoning for placing an emphasis on helping small businesses.

"Small and medium businesses need advice on a wide range of issues, from business planning to access to finance, and professionally qualified accountants are best placed to offer this guidance. Our own research shows that SMEs with well-developed finance teams, or with access to accountants as business advisors, can achieve faster, more sustainable growth for longer and they can attract investment to help them develop," she said.

Practical programmes

Enterprise Uganda's Chief Executive, Charles Ocici, commented: "We’re delighted to be working with ACCA to deliver practical programmes that will help SMEs assist the businesses who most need it. Enterprise Uganda is committed to enhancing and promoting financial literacy in business and the public sector, a commitment to which we know ACCA is also dedicated. We look forward to building on our mutually beneficial relationship in the months and years ahead through which SMEs can surely benefit."

Under the terms of the MOU, ACCA trained accountants will provide advice totally free of charge, which will undoubtedly be an important resource that many small Ugandan businesses will use to full advantage.
