Welsh council to provide employment and training opportunities

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council will be providing employment and training opportunities this week at a jobs fair. The event will be held during National Apprenticeship Week on Thursday 17^th March at the Muni Arts Centre in Pontypridd, Wales.

The council recently announced that £550,000 will be invested in its graduate and apprenticeship schemes to provide more employment opportunities for young people.

Over 20 major employers will be providing advice at the jobs fair, and over 30 apprenticeship posts will be created by the council. These will include posts in a wide range of areas, including finance, business administration, ICT, civil engineering and building control.

Graduate scheme

There will also be nine new graduate scheme positions, which will provide many opportunities for graduates of all ages. The scheme will last for two years and will enable graduates to participate in a wide range of service areas with the council.

In addition to the council jobs, there will also be apprenticeship and graduate vacancies with the major employers taking part in the event.

Amongst the companies offering opportunities are Asda, Deloitte, BBC, British Gas, Capita and Royal Mint.

Importance

Explaining how the council is providing additional employment opportunities for young people, Councillor Maureen Webber, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Council Business, said: “As part of the planned investment of over £23m in priority areas, £550,000 has been made available to provide additional employment opportunities for young people via our successful apprentice and graduate schemes.”

She added that the council is making the investment because “we realise the importance of these opportunities, in terms of supporting young people, creating a strong and diverse future workforce for the council and the communities it serves and the benefits to the local economy of more people employed.”
