Online learning could help to overcome career slumps, survey shows
Research by innovative training platform Course Library has shown that online learning and career progression opportunities could help people to overcome a career slump.
The research surveyed 1,200 people aged between 18 and 64 and found that 80.6 per cent of workers in the UK have experienced a career slump, with over 32 per cent believing that this is due to a lack of career progression.
A lack of training and development was also found to be a reason for experiencing a career slump, cited by 17.3 per cent, followed by repetitive tasks at 11.6 per cent.
The survey revealed what UK workers believe are the best ways to tackle a career slump, with 41 per cent saying that they handled it by changing their job.
Over 28 per cent of respondents believe that enhancing their skills through online learning courses would help them to overcome a career slump, whilst 23 per cent said that they handled their career slump by discussing career progression opportunities with their manager.
The survey also showed a demand for guidance in the workplace, with 20 per cent of respondents saying that they asked for a mentor.
Course Library Founder Jazz Gandhum commented that the research shows that a high percentage of workers in the UK experience job dissatisfaction, where a lack of career progression or opportunities for training and development are frequently the cause.
He added that a lot of companies traditionally fail to offer regular training and development, with cost and time spent out of the office being important factors, but by enhancing the skill-sets of employees through online courses, businesses of all sizes are able to benefit from lower training costs, a stronger workforce and the likelihood of a higher staff retention rate.
