Job vacancies reach highest level since 2015

The number of job vacancies in the UK has reached its highest level since 2015, according to figures from jobsite Adzuna.

The UK Job Market Report showed that 1,179,586 job openings are now being advertised, with just 0.44 jobseekers for every vacancy, creating an opportunity for people to change their job or explore other employment options.

Recover

The report also showed that salaries are starting to recover, increasing month-on-month since the start of the year and rising to £32,678, indicating that the previous decline in wage growth was just temporary.

The sectors with the most vacancies were revealed in the research, with teaching jobs having the highest number of vacancies at 57,039 and an annual salary growth of 1.5 per cent.

The number of graduate jobs is also at a high, with 16,901 vacancies being advertised and a 4.5 per cent wage growth, whilst the number of vacancies in HR and recruitment and property stands at 14,599 and 11,174 respectively.

The travel sector was also found to be one of the best-performing in terms of wage growth, with the annual salary in the sector increasing by 2.4 per cent to reach £25,865.

Paradise

Commenting on the report, Adzuna Co-Founder Doug Monro said: “With salaries up, vacancies at their highest levels in seven months, and fewer people competing for jobs, it’s an employment paradise for jobseekers.”

He added that this means less strain on disposable incomes as people looking for jobs and those in work have more room to manoeuvre in terms of their purchasing power.
