High Wycombe business launches scheme to help young people

A transport business based in High Wycombe has launched a new scheme to provide young people with opportunities such as on-the-job training.

Geodis UK, which is located in Cressex Business Park, is offering talented young individuals in the local area the opportunity to join the company and receive training and mentoring from experienced staff.

Lifeblood

The company has so far taken on five young individuals who are interested in the transport industry, and will be helping them to develop skills and receive training to prepare them for a career in logistics.

Geodis has also partnered up with learning and development company Tess Group to provide apprenticeships in customer services, truck planning and warehousing. The apprentices will be working on a number of modules whilst receiving hands-on training.

Managing Director, Jamie Cuthbert, described younger recruits as “the lifeblood” of a business like Geodis. He said that once they have joined up with the company, they are provided with “endless opportunities” for them to continue to grow and progress for many years.

Challenges

Cuthbert went on to discuss the benefits of working in the transport industry, stating that whilst it may be overshadowed by more appealing industries, it actually provides many “exciting challenges” and can help young people to grow in confidence and achieve job satisfaction as they learn more about the industry.

He added that it is one of the best industries for young people who are looking for a career that provides “growth, diversity and longevity.”
