Finance is third most lucrative degree for new graduates, research shows

Research from job search engine Adzuna has revealed which degree subjects are the most lucrative for new graduates.

The study used Adzuna’s ValueMyCV algorithm to analyse the CVs of recent graduates and identified the top ten most valuable degrees in the UK.

Potential

Graduates who studied finance were found to earn £32,159 on average, the third highest salary on the list – and the only subject not related to engineering or computing.

The research also revealed the subjects that offer the highest earning potential for male and female graduates.

Gender

Finance was found to be the most valuable subject for men, with an average earning potential of £34,339, followed by architecture (£34,025) and software engineering (£33,757).

Computer science offers the highest earning potential for women after graduation at £33,175, with management in second place at £27,989 (compared to eighth place for men).

Engineering subjects dominated the list of most lucrative degrees for male graduates, whilst business-related subjects were found to be the top earners for female graduates.
