Employers changing recruitment process to access top talent, survey shows

Employers are changing their recruitment process to enable them to have access to talented staff more quickly, according to a survey from TotalJobs.

The study of over 3,000 jobseekers and 100 employers found that over 45 per cent of employers have shortened their hiring process as they struggle to find and compete for talented staff.

Changes

According to the survey, employers are also making changes to their hiring process to please potential candidates, with 28 per cent making the process shorter to avoid putting off applicants.

Over 90 per cent of employers now make a job offer within a week of holding an interview, whilst 59 per cent now hold the first round of interviews less than two weeks after they first advertise the job role.

The study also revealed the interview processes that employers now use to hire their staff, with 10 per cent now holding interviews over Skype, and a quarter using psychometric testing to help them find a suitable candidate more quickly.

TotalJobs also explored the habits of jobseekers and found that 70 per cent now search for a job via mobile phone. Despite this, only 47 per cent of employers said that they have a website and an application process that is optimised for mobile.

The research comes after recent figures from the Office for National Statistics showed that unemployment reached an 11-year low.

Agile

TotalJobs Director, John Salt, commented: “With employers cutting the length of their attraction and recruitment process to draw in the best talent, the role that technology plays in delivering a more agile experience will continue to grow in significance.”

“Helping candidates find the jobs they love and employers hire the talent they need – fast – is essential, especially as the candidate market continues to tighten.”
