Businesses urged to sign up for apprenticeship event

Businesses in Droitwich are being urged to sign up for a free event that will highlight the benefits of offering apprenticeships.

The Droitwich Apprenticeships Employer Event, which is being held by Wychavon District Council and Worcestershire Local Enterprise Partnership, will take place at St Andrew’s Town Hotel, in St Andrew's Drive, on 4th May between 12:30pm and 2:00pm.

Support

Businesses are being encouraged to attend the event to receive information on apprenticeships, including the key changes in legislation and the Employer Levy.

Companies will also be able to receive information on what funding is available for apprenticeships, and will have the opportunity to hear from a representative of a company that is already taking on apprentices and learn about the benefits of doing so.

Advice and support will also be offered to businesses that are considering hiring apprentices.

Ideal

Councillor Richard Morris, portfolio holder for economic growth and housing on Wychavon District Council, said that a shortage of skills is the “biggest threat facing the district’s economy.”

He spoke of the benefits of apprenticeships, stating that they are an “ideal way” of helping to fill the gap and “train the workforce of the future.”

Discussing how the event will benefit businesses, he said that it will help to provide them with everything they need to know about taking on an apprentice and the funding support that is available.

“I would urge as many businesses as possible to attend,” he added.
