Work perks could be key to workplace success, research shows

Work perks could help to boost morale and enable employers to get the most out of their employees, according to research from packaged bank account claims specialist Banking Refunds.

The research surveyed over 1,500 British workers, exploring their attitudes on workplace perks and benefits, and found that over 35 per cent feel happier at work when receiving perks.

The research revealed the top perks for Brits, with private healthcare being the most sought-after, cited by 45 per cent of respondents. This was followed by complimentary food (42 per cent), flexible work hours (41 per cent), being able to finish work early on Fridays (37 per cent) and complimentary drinks (31 per cent).

The type of work perks that workers prefer were found to vary depending on the sector that they work in, with private healthcare being the most valued benefit for HR employees and administration staff, cited by 50 per cent and 46 per cent respectively.

Free benefits were found to be favoured by workers in consumer-facing industries, with 40 per cent of plumbers citing complimentary food and drink as their top perk and 44 per cent and 38 per cent of teachers respectively.

Appreciation

Banking Refunds Managing Director Carl Millar said that the research shows that 35 per cent of Brits love to receive perks even if they know that the perks are covered in the cost of their packaged bank accounts.

He added: “Following this, we thought it would be interesting to delve deeper into this topic and look at how perks and benefits may be used in the workplace. We discovered that when employers show they are invested in employees’ welfare and happiness, they can create a culture of mutual appreciation; cultivating a workplace where everyone strives to achieve the best results possible.”
