UK one of the most popular locations for international business

The UK has been named one of the most popular locations to be sent on international business in Santa Fe Relocation’s 2017 Global Mobility Survey, “Embedding Business Strategy in Global Mobility”.

The study, which was conducted by Circle Research and is in its 7th year, surveyed almost 1,000 global mobility teams and business leaders, and found that 8 per cent of international business assignments are arranged for the UK, despite concerns over the decision to leave the EU.

Impact

For this year’s report, Circle Research explored the views of 55 business leaders from companies with a global mobility function from the UK, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Belgium, and Canada.

The UK was found to be the 3rd most popular location for international workers, placing it just behind the USA and China, which came in 1st and 2nd place respectively. The USA receives 18 per cent of international secondments, whilst China receives 11 per cent.

The report has shown that despite the UK remaining a popular location for international workers, Brexit has had some impact, with the number of international assignments for employees based in the UK falling from 13 per cent in 2016 to 9 per cent in 2017.

Open

Commenting on the report, Neil Bothams, Regional CEO of Santa Fe Relocation, Europe, said: “Despite intense speculation about around Britain’s standing in the world, these new report findings show Britain is still open for business. The UK, which is approximately 20 per cent of the US in population terms, still packs a punch when it comes to global commerce.”
