UK businesses feeling confident despite Brexit uncertainties, data shows

The latest job market data from CV-Library has shown that businesses across the UK are feeling confident, despite the ongoing economic uncertainties caused by Brexit.

The UK job board compared data from Q2 2018 with the same period in 2017 and found that jobs in the UK increased by 11.6% in the second quarter of 2018, suggesting that firms continued to feel confident about their recruitment plans.

Job growth

London was among the cities with the most resilient businesses when it comes to hiring, with the city seeing a higher than average job growth of 14.2% in the second quarter of 2018.

The city ranked higher than other key locations in terms of job growth, including Glasgow, Newcastle and Birmingham, where the number of jobs increased by 13.5%, 11.6% and 10.6% respectively over the same period.

London also made it into CV-Library’s list of top cities for wage growth, with the data showing that salaries in the city rose by 1.9% in Q2 2018. Salaries across the UK increased by 0.6% year-on-year.

Fastest pace

Commenting on the increase in salaries across the UK, Lee Biggins, founder and managing director of CV-Library, said: “According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the last quarter saw starting salaries rising at the fastest pace in three years and this rise in pay is reflected in our own data. It’s clear that businesses are pulling out all the stops, offering competitive salaries in a bid to attract talented new recruits to their vacancies.”
