Number of UK exporters at record high, reveals UKTI

The number of UK exporters has hit a record high as a result of the Government providing more opportunities, according to new figures from UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).

The statistics were released on the first day of Exporting is GREAT Week.

Opportunities

The event, which aims to inspire businesses to grow overseas, is running from 18th to 22nd April. Around 90 events will take place this week to help more businesses throughout the UK understand the benefits of exporting.

Since November, over 6,000 exporting opportunities have been posted on the Exporting is GREAT website, with up to 40 new opportunities in over 100 countries and 44 different sectors being offered to UK businesses every day.

The Exporting is GREAT Export Hub has provided advice and support to nearly 3,000 businesses since November to help them achieve growth overseas.

Committed

Government agency UK Export Finance has also been beneficial, offering financial advice for companies of all sizes and providing over £17 billion worth of support to businesses over the past five years.

Trade and Investment Minister Lord Price said: “We have a proud history as a trading nation. The development of digital technology has the potential to give even the smallest company a global reach and access to attractive new markets.”

Commenting on how the Government will continue to help businesses, he said that it is “committed” to providing support to 100,000 additional businesses by 2020. He added that Exporting is GREAT Week is the “perfect time to inspire companies to take advantage of the world of opportunity out there and the global demand for British products, skills and expertise.”
