New enterprise zone could boost economy by £589 million
A new enterprise zone that will be based in the West Midlands could help to boost the local economy by £589 million.
DY5 - Dudley's Business and Innovation Enterprise Zone, which will be located in Brierley Hill in Dudley, is also expected to create thousands of new jobs across the country.
The enterprise zone will occupy space at the Waterfront complex and will provide additional hi-tech office and industrial space, as well as transport links to Birmingham.
The zone is aiming to become a hi-tech hub and will be targeting hi-tech and manufacturing companies, providing facilities for new and established businesses. It is predicted to bring a major boost to the area, with 7,000 new jobs expected to be created.
The project has been given the go-ahead by Communities Secretary and Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid, who attended Brierley Hill for its official launch.
Commenting on the new enterprise zone, Javid said: “We are determined to deliver hi-tech and skilled jobs across the country, helping to create an economy that works for everyone.”
Javid said that he is delighted to launch the new enterprise zone, which will help to secure up to 7,000 jobs in the heart of the Midlands. He added that he has seen the potential of the site, and with state-of-the-art office facilities, it will help to attract the best of industry.
DY5 - Dudley's Business and Innovation Enterprise Zone will be one of up to 48 enterprise zones across the country when it goes live in April.
