IMI audit committee appoints new non-executive director

Isobel Sharp, former senior technical partner at Deloitte has joined the audit committee of IMI, an engineering group and a member of the FTSE 250, as a non-executive director.

The highly respected financial figure has an extensive background as an influential player in the UK economy and the appointment has been well received.

Technical accounting

Widely held as one of the UK's most respected technical accounting minds, Sharp played a key role in the development of accounting standards for micro businesses. Furthermore, she also has extensive corporate governance and accounting experience that has been built up over a career that has included many other previous major roles.

Currently a non-executive director and audit chair at Winton Capital Group, Sharp is also a member of The Scottish Parliament Corporate Body's audit advisory board.

She chairs the UK Green Investment Bank's remuneration committee and is a visiting professor in corporate governance and auditing at Edinburgh University.

Other high profile posts held include serving as president of ICAS and being on the Financial Reporting Review Panel of the FRC and the UK Accounting Standards Board.

Up until 2012, she held the position of senior technical partner at Deloitte.

Chairman of IMI, Lord Smith of Kelvin, gave her a warm welcome when he said: "We are delighted that Isobel is joining our board. She has a strong financial background and deep knowledge of accounting practices and corporate governance policies and procedures. In addition, having advised a number of FTSE boards during her career, she has wide-ranging business experience."
