Business owners will base EU decision on facts, says report

Over 50 per cent of business owners say that they will base their decision on whether or not the UK should leave the EU on facts, according to a report by software company Sage.

The report showed that the majority of business owners are not interested in what celebrities or politicians think about the upcoming EU, with 56 per cent saying that facts will have the biggest impact on their decision.

Gut instinct

According to the research, 17 per cent of small business owners will base their decision on gut instinct, whilst less than 1 per cent will be influenced by celebrities or politicians supporting the Stronger In or Vote Leave campaigns.

Whilst the survey showed that business owners and entrepreneurs wish to be well informed in order to place their vote, nearly 50 per cent of small business owners said that they do not have enough information to make a decision.

According to a recent poll carried out by Startups.co.uk, over half of the UK’s start-up companies and over 1,400 of the website’s readers plan to vote for the UK to remain in the EU. However, the research also found that 49.7 per cent of businesses with a turnover of over £100,000 favour a Brexit.

Balanced argument

Commenting on Sage’s research, Sage Europe President Brendan Flattery stated that it demonstrates that small and medium-sized businesses are “hungry for the real facts” and that a “balanced argument” is needed on both sides rather than “continuing on with ridiculous assertions from big personalities.”
