£600k fund to support rural projects announced

£600k fund to support rural projects announced

The Prince's Countryside Fund, which was created six years ago to help improve rural businesses and communities, has announced a £600,000 grant funding pot to support rural initiatives.

The fund will help to support projects that provide opportunities, such as training for young and unemployed people, in rural communities.

Support

The Prince’s Countryside Fund is now accepting applications from UK rural enterprise projects, with the latest round of funding offering a grant of up to £50,000 to those who apply.

Applications from organisations that support rural businesses, farmers and communities following the 2015 winter floods are also being invited.

Since being founded by HRH The Prince of Wales in 2010, the fund has distributed over £7 million to over 180 projects across the UK, and provides over £1.3 million every year to projects throughout the UK.

Earlier this year, the fund provided grants to 21 projects, which was its greatest number ever to be released.

Boost

Commenting on how the programme has benefited rural communities since its creation, Fund Grant Manager, Clare Crookenden, said: “Since 2010 our grant programme has provided a vital boost to people and grassroot organisations who are working hard to protect and enhance the countryside.”

She added: “We've been able to support innovative and diverse projects, ranging from inspiring young people to develop their skills and pursue a rural career to strengthening rural businesses who have been hit hard in recent years.”

Applications for the fund will close on the 13 October.
