Management accounting skills in demand in Grimsby

Management accounting skills in demand in Grimsby

Grimsby has become an ideal location for those looking for a career in management accountancy.

Members of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) in the Yorkshire and Humber area earned almost double the UK national average salary in 2015.

Higher salaries

CIMA members earned an average basic salary of £53,025 last year, nearly double the UK average salary of £27,000.

Over 50% of CIMA students in the Yorkshire and Humber region also expected to receive a bonus last year, which is 6% of their annual salary. Those who are qualified receive a higher bonus of 7%.

CIMA Managing Director Andrew Harding FCMA, CGMA, said that the earning potential of members of the professional body in Grimsby has remained at a high, “driven by the relevance and value of their skills to business.”

Strong demand and opportunities

Harding added that there is a continued strong demand for management accounting skills as businesses look for better support in decision making.

“Businesses in Grimsby know the benefit of strong management accounting skills in driving value and managing risk and so management accountants are increasingly sought after – and receiving increased remuneration as a result,” he said.

Management accountants in Yorkshire and Humber are confident about their career opportunities, with over half intending to change their job within the next couple of years and 5% planning to seek a job abroad.

Harding addressed this, stating that business is “increasingly global” and that being able to work across different cultures is a “highly valuable skill.”
