Start-ups offered £150,000 in UK’s largest seed funding competition

UK start-ups are being offered the opportunity to secure £150,000 in the UK’s largest ever seed funding competition.

The Start-Up Series is a monthly competition and has returned for January to give early-stage companies the chance to secure equity funding from a £1.8 million Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS).

Exposure

The Start-up Series was first launched in October by Startups.co.uk in partnership with Worth Capital. Each month, one business is given the opportunity to secure the funding and will also receive support from Worth Capital, as well as media exposure from Startups.co.uk.

The competition is open to applicants that are a UK-registered business and a UK resident over the age of 18. Businesses are required to have been operating for 21 months or less and have less than £200,000 in gross assets. Small businesses that apply must also have less than 25 employees.

Businesses across a wide range of sectors can apply, including entrepreneurs with new products and services in the food and drinks, hospitality, retail and leisure industries.

The competition helps to educate business owners and also provides the opportunity to invest in UK start-ups that have been carefully selected by Worth Capital.

Plan

Businesses that make it to the next stage of the competition will be required to provide a detailed business plan and participate in a video interview, with the most successful business being selected by Worth Capital.

Applications for the competition are now open, and businesses will have until Saturday 14th January to apply.
