The Performance Management and Control module will train you in decision-making, budgeting and cost control techniques. You can support your business decisions with published financial statements, using the research and analytical skills granted to you by the Advanced Corporate Reporting module. You will also learn how to apply management accounting and performance measurement methods to real-life companies. As you do so, you will develop a strategic and comprehensive view of financial management.

Specialisation Modules

The Advanced Corporate Reporting module provides you with the research and analytical skills required to prepare published financial statements.

On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:

  • Discuss the professional and ethical duties of the accountant.
  • Evaluate the financial reporting framework.
  • Advise on and report the financial performance of entities.
  • Prepare the financial statements of groups of entities in accordance with relevant accounting standards, and explain reporting issues relating to specialised entities.
  • Appraise the financial performance and position of entities, and evaluate current developments.
  • Discuss the implications of changes in accounting regulation on financial reporting.

The module is focused on developing knowledge and skills in the application of management accounting techniques. It covers decision making, budgeting and standard costing, business management and controlling, and other modern techniques.

On successful completion of the module, you will be able to:

  • Critically analyse principles and trends in performance measurement and control, evaluating their relative importance.
  • Identify different budgeting techniques and evaluate their use in short-term decision making.
  • Analyse the current approach to performance measurement and control in a selected global organisation, and suggest how it could be improved.
  • Appraise the use of performance criteria in not-for-profit and public sector organisations.
