Brits are amongst world’s happiest workers, according to survey

UK employees are amongst the happiest workers in the world, according to the 2016 Edenred-Ipsos well-being work barometer.

The survey, which is carried out annually, studied 14,400 employees in 15 countries and found that over 70 per cent of employees in the UK feel positive about their well-being at work.

India was found to have the happiest employees, with 88 per cent of workers feeling positive about their job, whilst China was equal with the UK, with 71 per cent of workers enjoying their job. 

Factors

The survey identified a number of factors that contributed towards how employees feel about their work, such as the environment they work in, how they feel about the type of work they do, and how much they feel appreciated in their job.

These were split into three categories of “environment”, “appreciation” and “emotion”, with environment being found to be the biggest contributing factor towards how workers feel about their job across the countries.

Emotional factors were found to have less of an impact on well-being for workers from the UK, US and Spain compared to workers from other countries.

Priority

Discussing the role of employees in the workplace, Ipsos Group’s Antoine Solom said: “In professional environments undergoing profound changes, employees play a central role. Active consideration for their well-being at work is a priority.”

Edenred’s Jeanne Renard said that “in a sometimes difficult economic context, employee engagement is central to the sustainable performance of organisations.”
