Don Leslie Shares the Secrets of Consulting Success
One of LSBF's missions is to shape global careers and assure that all students have a competitive advantage in the global marketplace. As a key element of the school's structure, LSBF's Careers & Employability department endeavours to help students on their future career and improve their employability through a wide range of professional development programmes. On 14 October, Don Leslie, Founder-Director of Beament Leslie Thomas Recruitment Consultancy, gave LSBF students vital insight into the rewarding field of consultancy.
In his commercial awareness workshop at LSBF's New Court campus, Don revealed the 'hot' sectors in the consultancy market for 2014. He also outlined, for newcomers to the industry, what level they should expect to begin at and the kind of salary they could expect. He warned against seeing the big consultancy firms as being the only option, pointing out how a spell at a smaller firm can benefit careers in the long term.
Don himself spent some time at one of those big firms – Deloitte. He worked as both an auditor and a junior consultant at Deloitte, out of their offices in Johannesburg, Edinburgh and London, before co-founding BLT. As a result, he's seen the industry from various angles, making him the ideal person to tell aspiring consultants about the way ahead.
The coming weeks will see more career-focused events with influential business figures at LSBF, including:
- Getting into Marketing & Communications – 25 October
- Tools to Succeed: Starting Up Your Own Business – 7 November
Such talks aim to inspire students to achieve real success in business – with help from those with real-world experience.
Excellence in Career Development
Committed to professional development across several industries, LSBF's Career and Employability Services department provides students with a combination of events, masterclasses and workshops that reflect the business world. It provides inspiration, insight and different points of view on subjects relevant to students' careers.
Through the workshops, students have the chance to get work-ready whilst honing the skills needed to stand out in the marketplace. A number of other events are scheduled for the upcoming months, helping students to link what they learn in the classroom and what is expected from them out in the real world.
