London accelerator achieves record number of female founders

Number of female founders

MassChallenge has announced that 42 of the 100 UK start-ups chosen for its programme are led by a female entrepreneur.

The accelerator, which is the largest in London, selected the companies using an unbiased application process.

42 female founders out of a total of 100 entrepreneurs is a record amount for the accelerator.

This year’s group includes start-up companies from a wide range of sectors, including Eat Grub, which specialises in insect snacks, and Trunkaroo, a London-based STEM educational games company for children.

So far, 835 of the start-ups that have participated in the programme have raised over £1 billion, generating over £400 million in revenue and creating 50,000 jobs.

MassChallenge CMO Diane Perlman said: “We’re very proud that our system allows that talent to rise to the top by removing bias and that we have a fantastic track record of supporting female entrepreneurs, one of the highest among accelerators globally, and we’re hoping to attract even more talented women in the years to come, and to continue supporting them as they grow their businesses.”
