Apple tops list of biggest tech companies of 2016

Apple has topped the list of the biggest tech companies in the world. The company achieved a revenue growth of 28 per cent, increasing to nearly $234 billion last year.

According to the 2016 Forbes Global 2000, which ranks businesses based on their revenue, profit and assets, Apple is now the fourth largest company in the US.

Record

Apple achieved a profit of $53 billion in 2015 and has $239 billion in assets. The company’s boss, Tim Cook, revealed last year that Apple’s sales hit a record high in the fourth quarter as a result of an increase in sales of products such as the Apple Watch, iPhone and Mac.

“Fiscal 2015 was Apple's most successful year ever, with revenue growing 28% to nearly $234 billion,” Cook said.

He added that the company’s success comes as a result of its commitment to making “the best, most innovative products on Earth.”

The company, which is based in Cupertino, California, was ranked as the eighth largest company in the world by the 2016 Forbes Global 2000.

Biggest

Also featured on the list of the biggest tech companies in the world was Samsung, which came in second with a total revenue of $177 billion and a profit of $16.5 billion. This was followed by Microsoft, which has a revenue of $86.5 billion and a profit of $10 billion.

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, also appeared on the list, along with top tech companies from China, Taiwan, South Korea and India.
