Work has begun on a £1million business hub in Plymouth. The project, which will transform a care home into a business and community hub, will help to create more jobs in the city.

Property services company Ian Williams will be converting the building and taking on two extra employees and two apprentices, as well as offering five work placements as part of the contract.

Once the building has been converted, it will be the headquarters of the Four Greens Community Trust (FGCT), which will use the space to rent out business units.

Training opportunities

The building will consist of two sections. One will provide headquarter space for the FGCT and facilities for Plymouth City Council’s Early Years’ Service, whilst the other will contain 14 business units and rooms.

The building will also provide space for business start-ups as well as employment and training opportunities for adults and young people to develop skills for the workplace.

Social responsibility

Stuart Weddle, business manager at Ian Williams, said that the company is “delighted” to win the contract for creating the new building.

“We take our corporate social responsibility seriously and understand the importance the hub will bring to the people of Whitleigh,” he said.

“We value any initiatives that provide people with opportunities to succeed and are thrilled to be part of a project that will make a difference to people's lives.”

FGCT board member Vincent Burke said that the new building will “provide a community and business facility to meet the needs of the trust, its partners and the community.”
