Traditional office life no longer relevant, according to report
Over 70 per cent of workers believe that traditional office life is no longer relevant, according to a report from computer software company TeamViewer.
The report, titled “The End of Nine-to-Five”, showed that UK office workers feel that a traditional nine-to-five job is no longer necessary, with more people now wishing to work remotely instead.
The survey found that over 60 per cent of UK office workers work remotely at least once a week, whilst UK workers on average spend half of their week away from the office.
Whilst more UK office workers wish to work remotely, the report showed that employees are not receiving enough support from businesses in order to have a more flexible work life and work effectively outside of the office.
Some survey respondents also believe that they are not encouraged to work remotely, with 37 per cent saying that their company’s IT departments make it difficult for them to spend time away from the office.
The report also showed that the size of a company can affect how workers feel about remote working, with 44 per cent of those in larger companies saying that they find it more difficult to work from home.
Discussing how employee attitudes to remote working are affecting businesses, TeamViewer CEO Andreas Koenig said that workers are now demanding how, where and when they wish to work, and that this is presenting new challenges for businesses.
He stated that businesses need to respond if they wish to continue to motivate their employees and attract “the top talent.”
