Research shows increase in number of jobs

The latest city jobs index from recruitment company Robert Walters has shown an increase in the number of jobs in the City of London.

The figures show a rise of 37 per cent in July compared with the same period last year.

According to the index, there was also a 17 per cent increase in job volumes in July compared with the previous month.

Employment in the capital city is at a high, with a separate index from IHS Markit showing a 53.1 rise in employment levels in July, up from 52.8 in the previous month.

In addition, research from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) released earlier this week found that businesses are expecting employment levels to rise even further in the coming months.

Robert Walters Chief Executive Chris Hickey said: “Since the start of the year we have seen a steady increase in job volumes in the City, with employers taking a robust attitude towards hiring even in the face of recent uncertainty surrounding the general election.”

He added: “While Brexit remains a source of concern, it has not been enough to dampen hiring activity as many firms look to grow in the second half of the year.”
