Graduate recruitment app Debut launches national petition for interview feedback

Student and graduate recruitment app Debut has launched a national petition calling for the government to make it a requirement for employers to provide interview feedback for candidates.

The petition, which is part of Debut’s #FightForFeedback campaign, comes after research from the app found that over 80 per cent of candidates who have attended an interview have not received feedback.

Important

The research revealed that on average, an interviewee spends £41 attending an interview, whilst over 50 per cent of people said that they had to take annual leave to attend a face-to-face interview.

The time it takes for feedback to be provided was found to be important to candidates, with 41 per cent believing that it is reasonable to expect employers to provide them with feedback within 48 hours of an interview, followed by a working week at 34 per cent and within 24 hours at 21 per cent.

Candidates also revealed their preferences when it comes to receiving feedback, with 42 per cent preferring to be contacted by email. This was followed by in person at 24 per cent, via social media messaging at 14 per cent, phone at 10 per cent and WhatsApp at 6 per cent.

Vital

Network Rail Emerging Talent Acquisition Manager Melissa Amouzandeh stated that feedback is vital for a candidate’s career progression and that without it, they might find it hard to secure that next opportunity.

She added: “It's the responsibility of the employer to share feedback, not only to help the candidate develop, but also in the interest of the UK workforce – good quality feedback reduces the time it takes for candidates to secure a position of employment, and also reduces the time it takes to find the right person for the role. This campaign is win:win for all involved.”
