Government tax office in Cardiff announces 480 jobs

The Government is looking for recruits to fill 480 posts at the tax office in Cardiff due to the upcoming closure of the HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) office at Ty Glas in Llanishen.

The closure comes as HMRC plans to restructure its tax offices, replacing its current network of offices with a smaller number of larger centres.

HMRC announced last year that it will be reorganising its offices in 2019-20 and that the new regional centre will create 3,800 jobs.

Apprenticeships

The Ty Glas centre currently employs over 2,000 people, and the relocation of the site will create over 400 jobs. The office mainly operates as a processing centre, with some employees working in technical roles.

The Government is now searching for people to fill the positions, which will include roles that deal with with customer calls and complaints.

Applications for the roles are now open, and some of those who are successful will be offered an apprenticeship. Those interested in applying for a job have until 31st May to submit their application.

Restructuring

As part of the restructuring, HMRC will also be closing its Swansea, Wrexham and Porthmadog offices. However, the Government has said that the new centre, which is set to open in 2020, will create hundreds of jobs.

Whilst the location of the new centre has not yet been announced, HMRC has identified a number of potential sites. Staff working at the current office will be relocating to the new centre, along with a “significant number of people” from Swansea.
