Research reveals cities and sectors with the highest average wage

Research from Adzuna has revealed the top cities and sectors that offer the highest average wage.

The jobsite compiled data from 1.2 million jobs hosted on its website and compared average wages across the UK to identify the top ten cities with the highest average wage.

Top

London came top of the list, with the average wage in the city currently standing at £39,232, followed by Cambridge at £35,321, Edinburgh at £34,145, and Reading at £33,210.

Birmingham came fifth with an average wage of £32,833, followed by Oxford, Aberdeen, Guildford, and Stevenage, which offer an average wage of £32,682, £32,280, £32,227 and £32,094 respectively.

The research also revealed the cities with the lowest average wage, with Rochdale topping the list at £24,458.

Best

The top ten best-paid jobs were identified in the research, with IT offering the highest average paid wage at £47,512. This was followed by jobs in the legal sector at £40,190, scientific/QA roles at £38,926, trade & construction at £38,625 and energy, oil & gas jobs at £38,548.

Jobs in accounting & finance were also among the best paid, offering an average wage of £36,554. This was followed by jobs in healthcare & nursing, consultancy roles, jobs in the engineering sector and PR, with these offering £36,306, £35,435, £35,075 and £33,729 respectively.

Customer services jobs were found to be the lowest paid, with these roles offering an average wage of £20,928.
