Amazon to create 1,000 new jobs at fulfilment centre

Amazon to create 1,000 new jobs at fulfilment centre

Amazon is to create new jobs by opening a fulfilment centre in North-West England. The centre, which is set to open later this year, will be located in Manchester and will create 1,000 jobs in the area over the next three years.

Amazon is planning to expand this year, creating 2,500 jobs across the UK. The online retailer’s new centre will join the company’s ten other fulfilment centres, which are located throughout the UK.

Dunfermline, Dunstable, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay each have one centre, whilst Doncaster has two. The most recent centres opened last year.

Big step

Mike Kane, the MP for Wythenshawe and Sale East, described the new Manchester centre as “fantastic news”, adding that “this investment is another big step in the renaissance of Wythenshawe.”

Amazon is currently recruiting operations managers and engineers and will be offering HR and IT job roles at the new centre. The company is also recruiting at its head office in London, as well as at its research and development centres in Cambridge, Edinburgh and London.

There are also job opportunities at the online retailer’s customer service centre in Edinburgh and at a number of its warehouses throughout the UK.

Expanding

Amazon is expanding its range of products and recently signed a deal with Morrisons to sell the supermarket’s range of fresh, chilled and frozen food through its Prime Now and Pantry services. Amazon customers can now use its Pantry service to build up their own box of groceries, which are available for delivery the following day.

The company is also planning to release its own clothing line and is rumoured to have signed up former Marks & Spencer women’s wear boss, Frances Russell.
