Amazon to create 5,000 new

Amazon has announced plans to create 5,000 new jobs in the UK in 2017, which will bring the company’s UK workforce to over 24,000.

The company will be searching for staff across a range of areas and will also be offering apprenticeship opportunities.

The announcement of the jobs comes as Amazon plans to open three new fulfilment centres in Tilbury, Daventry and Doncaster, with the new spaces being used to enable the company to cope with rapid growth from third-party sellers and handle deliveries from its sellers.

The new jobs will be available at these new fulfilment centres, as well as at Amazon’s London-based head office and at its customer service centre in Edinburgh.

The company will be searching for staff with a wide range of experience, including software developers, warehouse staff, supervisors and operations managers.

News of the upcoming job openings follows Amazon’s expansion into groceries and fashion, with the company being reported to be launching its own fashion label.

Opportunities

Amazon UK Country Manager Doug Gurr said that the company is creating thousands of new jobs in the UK, including hundreds of apprenticeship opportunities, as it continues to innovate and provide its customers with even faster delivery, more selection and better value.

Discussing the roles that will be available, he said: “We are hiring for all types of roles from flight test engineers, software engineers and corporate managers in our development centres and head office, to operations managers, supervisors, engineers, service technicians, HR roles and order fulfilment roles in our fulfilment centres.”
