Small businesses join forces to encourage EU ‘in’ vote

Small businesses join forces

Several small businesses have teamed up to become part of a campaign to encourage other small businesses to vote for the UK to remain in the European Union.

The businesses cover a range of sectors and have been chosen for the campaign to show the diversity of the UK’s small businesses.

Important

Business leaders from the participating companies highlighted the benefits of an ‘in’ vote, discussing how being part of the EU has helped their business.

Amongst the businesses joining the campaign is Loco2, which sells train tickets to people in the UK and across Europe. Company co-founder, Jamie Andrews, said that being a member of the EU has allowed UK-based business to go from “strength to strength.”

Also joining the list of small companies supporting an ‘in’ vote is digital recruitment platform YourFeed, with CEO Jack Parsons stating that Europe is “very important” for startups. He also stated that having access to coders from all over the EU makes it possible to do business, believing there to be a shortage of tech skills in the UK.

Advance Performance founder, Samantha Hale, said that she firmly believes the benefits of staying in the EU far outweigh those of leaving, whilst Glow Innovation Ltd founder, Laura Gelder-Robertson, stated that UK businesses will be better off commercially, economically and socially if the UK remains.

Backbone

The businesses are being supported by Secretary of State for Business, Sajid Javid, who stated that there is “wide consensus” that leaving the EU would cause “economic shock” and that small businesses are the “backbone of our economy.”
