Accountants and recruiters share similar views on looking professional
Research from CV-Library has shown that accountants and recruiters share similar views when it comes to looking professional for a potential job role.
The study surveyed 1,100 employees and more than 200 recruitment professionals to find out their views on posting information on social media and how this affects an employer’s view of potential employees.
Unacceptable
The research found that 70% of accountants believe that a potential employer would judge them depending on what they posted on social media. This was found to be the case, with the same percentage of recruiters confirming that they are influenced by what they see online.
Accountants and recruiters also believe that selfies are unacceptable when it comes to professional profiles, with 61.2% of recruiters believing that they should be avoided and more than 50 per cent of respondents in the accounting sector sharing the same view.
Careful
The study found that 77.3% of individuals working in the accounting sector expect recruiters to look them up on Google, whilst the majority of accountancy professionals (75%) said that they are more careful about what information they post online. Just 23.3% of accountants said that their social media page is not set to private.
Offering advice to professionals, CV-Library Founder and Managing Director Lee Biggins said: “If you use social media, it’s vital that you are aware of what you’re sharing and that you understand the implications of posting inappropriate or potentially damaging content. When in doubt, switch your profile to full-private mode to cover your back.”
