We’ve sourced a selection of some of the most fast paced roles in the financial sector; ideal for you to succeed in the fast-lane of business. Although these jobs are some of the most popular in the industry, they are not the only career options for you.

You can find some examples below. If they don't appeal to you, you can always have advice from our expert career consultants who are available to help you decide which academic pathway is more suitable to your career objectives.

EXAMPLES:

Financial Trader

Suggested Pathway:
BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Studies + CFA® + Graduate Development Programme in Financial Services

There are three types of trader: proprietary, flow (market makers), and sales. Flow traders buy and sell products on the financial markets for the bank's clients, which include securities and other assets such as futures, options and commodities – all with the objective of maximising profits for the clients, and themselves! Flow traders set prices and execute trades, seeking to maximise assets and minimise financial risk, while Proprietary traders trade on behalf of the bank itself. Their aim is to buy low and sell high. They do this by analysing economic data, technical analysis, experience, cross-asset correlations and identifying undervalued and overvalued prices.

Investment Fund manager

Suggested Pathway:
BA (Hons) Business Administration (Business Decision Making) + CFA® + Graduate Development Programme in Financial Services

Another lucrative profession, an Investment Fund Manager assists clients in investing their money in the best possible way. This can be investment in shares, bonds and other assets such as currency or property, with the aim of maximising the clients return on their investment. Institutional Fund Managers work on behalf of organisations, such as pension funds or insurance companies, where the sums of money invested are much bigger – offering much larger rewards for a good performance.

Operational Investment Banker

Suggested Pathway:
BA (Hons) Business Administration (Finance and Accounting) + CFA® + Graduate Development Programme in Financial Services

The Operations Division of an investment bank is often described as the 'engine room' of the organisation, offering dynamic individuals with a fast paced, exciting and rewarding environment. Operations provides support to the client facing departments, such as trading, corporate finance, and corporate banking, ensuring that the business is administered in an efficient, controlled, risk-free and timely manner.

Credit analyst

Suggested Pathway:
BA (Hons) Accounting and Financial Studies + CFA® + Graduate Development Programme in Financial Services

Pursue a career as a successful Credit Analyst, undertaking key responsibilities that include the risk assessments of extremely valuable lending proposals. A highly important role, you'll assess the credit worthiness of a loan applicant, and dependant on the area that you wish to work in, you'll handle a range applications belonging to both individuals, and large organisations. A job in credit analysis also offers a range of excellent prospects in the finance sector, with the opportunity of employment with leading banks (commercial or investment), credit rating agencies and highly successful investment organisations.

This highly demanding role commands strong interpersonal skills, and successful credit analysts will also need to be analytical, decisive and driven.
