Course Structure

Delivered over 2 academic terms, the IFP provides you with a study combination of applied English for academic purposes from the first semester, and a specialisation pathway choice for the second semester.

The flexible IFP also allows you to complete the programme in either 6 or 12 months, depending on your study needs:

6 Months

Starting your programme on our February intake enables you to complete the course in an intensive 6 months. Here you can see how:

  • Semester 1: February – May (3 months)
  • Semester 2: June – August (3 months)
12 Months

Starting your programme on our October intake, you can complete the course in 12 months. Here you can see how:

  • Semester 1: October – April (6 months)
  • Semester 2: May – October (6 months)

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

Offering you the highest possible standard of applied English skills, EAP runs across both semesters. It ensures you are fully prepared to write and communicate to UK undergraduate standard. Every key feature of academic learning is covered, from essays to exams.

Assessment

Assessments for the IFP programme comprise of essays, reports, assignments, oral examinations and a variety of written assessments.

Coursework accounts for 20% for the assessed academic subject modules (including four assignments per subject module) and 80% examination (one per subject module).

To ensure that your English language skills are adequate for UK study for your chosen undergraduate degree, you will be tested through regular internal assessments, including mock IELTS-based tests. Your final grades for these modules will be determined by an end of course IELTS examination or equivalent.

  • Minimum age, 16 years old
  • Full secondary education/GCSE equivalent
  • English proficiency: PTE 36 (minimum: Listening 36, Reading 36, Speaking 36, Writing 36) or equivalent, IELTS 5.0 (minimum: Listening 4.0, Reading 4.0, Speaking 4.0, Writing 4.0) or equivalent, TOEFL 57 (minimum: Reading 8, Writing 17, Listening 13, Speaking 19) or equivalent

Native English speakers, or students who satisfy the English Language requirements of IELTS 6.5 or higher can apply for our Accelerated Foundation Programme to prepare for enrolment on the next available intake.
