T4 - Test of Professional Competence in Management Accounting

Overview

The Test of Professional Competence in Management Accounting (formerly TOPCIMA) is the final level of the CIMA qualification and must be taken after successful completion of the full strategic level.

It consists of two parts:

Part A

Initial Professional Development – Work Based Practical Experience

You will be asked to prepare and submit a CIMA Career Profile to assess your personal work based practical experience and skills development.

Part B

Case Study Examination

The examination will test you on the syllabus content of the Strategic level papers mainly as well as the Management and Operational level papers.
You will be asked to apply strategic management accounting techniques to analyse, recommend and support decisions.

  • Introduction to the T4 exam – methodology, marking matrix, preparation
  • Report techniques
  • The professional communication approach
  • Analysis of the pre-seen
  • Reading time
  • Preparation of numerical appendices
  • Production of an issue statement
  • Planning and brainstorming approaches
  • Analysis and recommendation of a proposal
  • Analysis and recommendation of a problem
  • Preparing ethical analysis
  • Dealing with section B
  • Three mock exams with one-to-one feedback

Minimum entry requirements

  • Must be 18 or over
  • Proficiency in English and Mathematics is highly advisable
  • Holders of a relevant degree or professional qualification may qualify for exemptions*

*We advise you to check your starting point with CIMA before you enrol on the course.
