CIMA 2010 Syllabus
Effective February 2010, LSBF will be implementing the updated CIMA syllabus which has been designed in response to market changes and industry demands.
To ensure a smooth transition, we have summarised the key changes below. Current students should review this information and consider when registering for future modules.
What are the differences between the old and the new syllabus?
Certificate Level
There are no changes to the Certificate Level in the new 2010 syllabus.
Managerial Level
- The previous Managerial level will be split into two levels – Operational and Management
- The lower levels of the current Managerial Level have become the Operational Level. On passing this level students are awarded a Diploma in Management Accountancy.
- On passing the next 3 papers of the Management Level, students will be awarded an Advanced Diploma in Management Accounting.
- You may choose any combination of papers to suit your own study requirements. However, students are advised to sit and pass the Operational Level before sitting the Managerial Level in the new syllabus and are recommended not to sit more than three exams at any single examination sitting for the most possibility of success.
Strategic Level
- Paper names are changing but still have similar content
- Students must sit all three papers together at the first sitting. However, subjects can be taken in any order, and in any combination afterwards.
Test of Professional Competence in Management Accounting (TOPCIMA)
- The TOPCIMA comprises of two element parts that must both be achieved in order to complete the test (Part A- Initial Professional Development – Work Based Practical Experience and Part B- Case Study Examination).
- Putting Practical Experience within the TOPCIMA does not add to the burden of becoming a Chartered Management Accountant. The current syllabus has a requirement that students complete a Career Profile. This change simply raises the awareness off experience as a key element in becoming an ACMA.
- To pass, student must obtain a minimum credit of 75 comprising the minimum credit of 50 for Part A and the minimum credit of 25 for Part B.
