FILM MANAGEMENT

CORE SUBJECTS

Film Producing

This module covers a wide range of key issues relevant to the film production industry. In particular, the course highlights the professional requirements such as networking, project management, investing and financing skills expected of a film producer. Specific on-site production skills pertaining to the day-to-day problem solving, hiring of the director and other key personnel, budgeting, planning and leadership will be explored through the engagement of various real-life examples from the industry. The course also enhances the student’s understanding and knowledge of how to strike profitable deals with producers from other companies to establish cooperative production projects.

The principal objectives of the course are the following:

  • Gain a thorough understanding of the required elements of film production and the various stakeholders that may make a contribution to the progress of a film project
  • Improve managerial and leadership skills in order to successfully guide a film project from start to finish
  • Learn how to use project management software in order to troubleshoot, conduct optimal scheduling, manage the flow of film production responsibilities and duties
  • Improve networking skills in order to build innovative and creative inter-company partnership that are mutually beneficial to all parties concerned

Film Financing

This module covers the complex areas of financing a film. Students will look at the different stages in financing a film production in addition to gaining an insight in the different players involved in the production of a film. Students will gain complete knowledge of completion guarantees, co-productions, subsidies, tax implications and tax gaps. Understand how to calculate and differentiate between different ways of financing a project, such as Investment financing or obtaining grants financing.

The principal objectives of the course are the following:

  • Gain a thorough knowledge for the move budgeting software Movie Magic
  • Acquire complete knowledge of the processes, players, legal aspects and the commercial issues facing the financing of a fil
  • Gain the knowledge of the required contracts and agreements as well as explaining the theories of small business planning
  • Understand the marketing involved when raising the funds for a film production
