Bottom line management is a complex and multidimensional field of inquiry that is, at a core level, based on how a business is organised, what its commercial nature is about and where its cost and revenue priorities lie. For most companies the bottom line has been traditionally conceived as the net income stream. In the new economic order, however, instead of maximizing shareholder value, companies are concerned with maximising stakeholder value; and as a result the bottom line encompasses more than just the single-minded pre-occupation with profit considerations. Although profit is still a primary goal of most organisations, the current climate brings forth non-financial motivations as significant aims to satisfy even in financial sector companies.
