Opportunity Recognition

In this module students will learn how to identify an opportunity for business development and transform it to an actual business operation. It is imperative to possess three-pronged skill set comprised of marketing, management and technology skills. The opportunity recognition module involves a multi-dimensional focus on entrepreneurial knowledge, a sophisticated understanding of markets and consumers, a sound grasp of the legal compliance framework and a thorough grounding in business financing approaches and strategies. The module will highlight the requirements that are an integral part of the process of initiating change on a limited budget and establishing a start-up company positioned with a compelling product or service the offer.

The principal objectives of the course are the following:

  • Acquire the knowledge of how to identify an opportunity while understanding the composition of an opportunity and how those are discovered
  • Ability to critique, prioritise and recognise the factors in opportunity discovery
  • Demonstrate a set of creative problem-solving ideas and skills
  • Demonstrate the skills of how to identify customer needs in a market that is yet to be discovered

International Entrepreneurship

This module focuses on the advanced precepts of entrepreneurship within the global context, and it provides the necessary know-how with respect to global regulations, cross-cultural issues, country risk, exchange rate risk and various financing options available across the globe for investment projects in varying industries as well as areas of the world. The module provides a road-map of how to acquire and expand the theoretical, analytical, quantitative and project management skills to develop a company from a single good idea into a profitable global organisation. The module will focus on how to identify venture capital opportunities in the UK and the global context, and it will provide applied knowledge regarding feasibility analysis of the new venture.

The principal objectives of the course are the following:

  • Attain a strong intellectual and practical basis in the issues, concepts, and themes pertaining to the set-up of a business enterprise internationally
  • Acquire the data analysis and financial modelling skills relevant to establishing a business plan and translating that into an actual project, given international regulations as well as financial constraints and opportunities
  • Improve cross-cultural awareness and utilise advanced interpersonal communication skills and leadership qualities to take advantage of the various operating options available through the divergent business environments across the globe
  • Recognise and capitalise on diversity and varying corporate culture conditions as a valuable resource for the viability of the international project
