Competitive Strategic Management

Students will gain the knowledge in order to improve and continue the competitive advantage in the market place. In order to be successful and improve a company’s market presence, all functional areas such as marketing, finance, human resources and finance have to be involved in the process. All these areas have to be coordinated through a general management outlook, and all strategic decisions will have to be taken with the overall company strategy in mind. Acquiring the knowledge of how to create, develop and expand multiple business units in order for the organisation to increase.

The principal objectives of the course are the following:

  • Acquire the knowledge of how to analyze the international as well as external factor that affect the potential growth of the organisation and as a result factors that might affect the organisation’s competitive advantage
  • Acquire the knowledge of how an organisation can expand by diversifying their product portfolio
  • Develop and analyse strategies in order to gain human capital during mergers and acquisitions
  • Understand the different factors that potentially can affect the strategic management process such a tools for example is to realise that a certain amount of flexibility within the organisation is a requirement

Enterprise Resource Planning

In this module students will focus on integrated information systems; this includes enterprise resource planning systems, back-office and front-office, customer relationship management (CRM), supply chain management and manufacturer resource planning systems. It is of utmost importance for organisations to use integrated information systems, using these systems will allow organisations to adapt to market changes and grow. E-business initiatives are an integral part of this process since it is increasingly important for organisations to adjust to this technology. The main objective of the course is make students fully understand the theoretical and practical dimensions of integrated information systems (IIS). The major areas that will be taught are 1) why and how the integrated information systems has been developed and the benefits of its use 2) How you implement integrated information systems 3) How you design and implement an integrated information system using the Microsoft Great Plains suite of business software.

The principal objectives of the course are the following:

  • Gain full knowledge of the driving forces behind an organisation’s decision to implement an integrated information system
  • Understand the theoretical and practical aspects of integrated information systems and how they can be utilized to achieve best practices
  • Recognise the potential associated with enterprise resource planning in creating new and improved procedures and channels to control the flow of information and resources in various aspects of the operations environment in a company
  • Acquire the quantitative and programming skills necessary to adopt new resource planning technologies that come onto the market in order to be on the leading edge with respect to technological evolution as compared to competitors
